LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Congressman Andy Barr hosted an academy sendoff Monday morning for seven young Kentuckians.
They are preparing to enter the US Military Academy, the US Air Force Academy, the US Naval Academy and the US Merchant Marine Academy.
Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of students each year to four of the five service academies. After nominations are submitted, each service academy selects which students will receive an appointment to attend.
“There’s a lot that unites us,” Barr said. “This event today is what unites us as a country. These outstanding talented, hard working individuals who have answered a call to serve a cause greater than themselves. To go to the academies, to serve their country.
The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.FacebookTwitterGoogle +
