LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- A tax reform bill that President Trump signed into law at the end of 2017 is now impacting local business owners and their employees.
Congressman Andy Barr spent time with members of the Chamber of Commerce in Lexington on Friday to discuss the system. During the meeting, Barr listened to local business owners and their stories of growth since the tax plan.
During the meeting that WKYT sat in on, there were no negative impacts given by the business owners. A few voiced concerns over the new tax system holding hidden downfalls.
Afterwards, Barr spoke with WKYT and told one story about how the bill has affected a business owner and his employee.
“One of his lowest paid workers came to him with a larger paycheck, a smaller withholding, and what he indicated was that he thought the employer had made a mistake. That his paycheck was bigger, and he asked if he had gotten a raise, and he said, actually I didn’t give you a raise, but in effect you got a raise because of the Republican tax cuts.”
